Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-09-15.
The short version
JoinUs is a party game. You join a room with a code, pick a name and a face, and play. We do not ask for your email address, a password, or your real name to do that. We keep what the games need to work — your nickname, your character, and what you write and draw — and nothing else about you. We do not track you, and we never sell your information.
Who we are
JoinUs is made and operated by an individual in British Columbia, Canada.
- Email: info@joinus.games
- Mail: Privacy Officer, JoinUs, 56-8570 204 St, Langley, BC V2Y 0T9, Canada
"We" and "us" below mean JoinUs. "The app" means the JoinUs app on iPhone, on Android, and in a web browser.
What we collect, and why
An anonymous ID, the first time you open the app. It is a random identifier with nothing personal attached — no email, no password, no name. It is how the game knows which seat is yours, so you can close the app, lose signal, or reload the page and come back to the same game. It is stored on your own device, in the device's secure storage on a phone and in the browser's storage on the web.
Your nickname and your character. Both are yours to choose. The nickname is what the other players in the room see. The character is stored as a short string of digits describing the face you built.
What you make in the games. The stories and sentences you write, the drawings you draw, the answers, guesses, moves and scores. This is the game itself — without it there is nothing to play or to show the room.
Room and match records. The room's code, who hosted it, when you joined, and when you were last seen, so the game can run and so a player who disappears can come back.
If you sign in — and only if you do. Signing in is optional; the app is fully playable without it. It exists so that your character follows you to a new phone.
- Sign in with Apple (iPhone): we receive an identifier for you. As the app is built, we ask Apple for nothing else — no name, no email address.
- Sign in with Google (Android): we receive an identifier and your email address, which is stored with your account.
Technical records our hosts keep. Our database and our hosting provider record ordinary request information, including your device's IP address and the time of the request, to run the service and to keep it secure.
What we do not do
- No analytics. There is no analytics or crash-reporting service in the app. We do not measure what you tap.
- No tracking. We do not follow you across other apps or websites, and iOS will never show you a JoinUs prompt asking to track you, because we never ask.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone except the providers listed below who run the service for us.
- No advertising profile. See the next section: ads, when they arrive, are non-personalized.
Advertising
Ads arrive with the app's first release in the App Store and on Google Play. Until then the app shows no ads at all. When they arrive, this is what they are:
- Banner ads only — no full-screen ads, and none between you and a game you are already playing.
- Non-personalized only. The ad is chosen by where it sits, not by a profile of you. Google, which serves the ads (AdMob in the phone apps, AdSense on the web), receives the ad request — which includes your IP address and general information about your device — to choose an ad, to show it, and to count that it was shown. It does not use it to build an advertising profile of you.
- Nothing you write, draw, or type in a game is ever sent to an advertiser.
Paying for the ad-free version
A subscription arrives with that same first store release. It removes ads from every room you open, for everyone in the room — including people playing on the web who paid nothing.
- Apple or Google take the payment. We never see your card number or your billing address.
- RevenueCat, a subscription service, confirms your purchase to us on the store's behalf and tells us which account it belongs to, so the app knows to turn ads off.
- The price is shown to you before you buy, and it renews until you cancel. You cancel in your device's own subscription settings.
Who else handles your information
| Who | What they do | What they hold |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Runs our database and the sign-in system | Everything in What we collect above |
| Cloudflare | Serves this website and the web app | Ordinary request records, including IP addresses |
| Apple / Google | Sign-in, and — once ads and subscriptions ship — advertising and payment | Their own account records; see their privacy policies |
| RevenueCat | Confirms subscription purchases, once they ship | Your store purchase and the account it belongs to |
Our providers store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be available to courts and authorities in those countries under their laws.
How long we keep it
Stories, drawings, game records and rooms are kept with no expiry. There is no automatic clean-up today, and we would rather say so than imply your words disappear on a schedule. If you want something you made removed, write to info@joinus.games and we will remove it.
Deleting your account
If you signed in, the app's menu has Delete account, and it works immediately, mid-game included.
It deletes your account and the sign-in link to Apple or Google. It does not delete what you wrote and drew in games you played. Those rounds belong to everyone who was in the room, and removing one player's half of a story would take the game apart for the others. If you want your content removed as well, write to us.
If you never signed in, clearing the app's storage — deleting the app, or clearing the site's data in your browser — ends that anonymous identity for good.
Your rights
Under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act and Canada's PIPEDA, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Write to info@joinus.games. We answer within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca) or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
Children
JoinUs is for players 13 and older. It is not built for, marketed to, or directed at children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has given us information, we delete it. If you believe that has happened, write to info@joinus.games.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels encrypted. Sign-in tokens are held in your device's secure storage. Our database refuses any request that is not from the player it belongs to, checked on the server rather than trusted from the app.
This website
The page you are reading is a static page. It has no server of its own, no database, and no account. It sets no cookies to follow you, and it runs no analytics. The only thing it asks of another service is the ad described above, and only once ads have shipped.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it, and the previous version stops applying from that date. If a change is a significant one, the app will say so rather than leaving you to notice.
